A LITTLE BIT ABOUT RED HILL
Red Hill borders Paddington, Ashgrove, Kelvin Grove, and Spring Hill, and is one of Brisbane’s older suburbs and is located 2.5km’s west of Brisbane’s central Business District and features some beautiful houses for sale. Red Hill is unique as well as rich in history as well as heritage listed land marks.
While not always as popular as it is today, Red Hill has benefited from investor interest and strong growth in median house prices. Being one of Brisbane’s older suburbs, it’s rich history includes many landmarks including St Brigid’s Roman Catholic Church, a large red brick church built in 1914. The Red Hill Skate Arena, previously a cinema in the 1920’s, which burnt down in 2002. The corner of Enoggera and Kennedy Terraces boasts the heritage listed Ithaca Town Council Chambers, which operated as a Brisbane City Library until 1990.
Red Hill offers plenty of access to shops and award winning restaurants, as well as all the conveniences of inner city living. Real estate in Red Hill is not only popular with owner occupiers working in the CBD, it also has a healthy rental market due to local students and young inner city workers.
A BRIEF HISTORY
Red Hill was a part of the shire of Ithaca, which was created in 1887. In 1903 the shire was raised to the status of town. Development of the area was slow due to the steep hills and much like Paddington at this time, public transport was limited to horse drawn bus which often made long detours just to avoid the steep hills.
The 1940’s saw Red Hill become somewhat derelict, and it wasn’t until around the 1960’s when a resurgence of interest created buyers for houses for sale in the suburb once more.
MOST COMMON STYLE OF HOME IN RED HILL
Early real estate consisted of old workers cottages, Queenslanders, and colonials. In recent years renovations have retained and enhanced existing structures, which have added to the suburbs character and charm.
